Frequently Asked Questions
Are you "Registered"?
Yes. I am registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. I have been licensed to practice psychology autonomously in Ontario since 2001.
Dr. Melissa Wells-Cave and Nikhil Koushik are also registered. When students work in our practice, the receipts are made through Dr. Pryke.
Are you covered by OHIP?
No. The fees charged for psychological services are not covered by public health funding. However, many private extended health care benefits do cover some or all of the cost. Check with your provider.
What are your rates?
We charge $175.00 per hour for all direct and indirect services. I am unable to provide any "sliding scale" at this time.
A full psycho-educational "standard" assessment typically costs $2880.00.
An assessment that includes questions about autism typically costs $288$3150.00.
What are my payment options?
I only accept cheques, cash, or email transfers. I do not have the capability of accepting credit or debit cards. I do not submit invoices to insurance carriers. Getting reimbursed for services is your task.
Do you have a waiting list?
For therapy and consultation I can typically get a new client in within 2 to 3 weeks depending upon your flexibility with appointment times.
For full psycho-educational assessments I typically have approximately a 6 month waiting list to begin the assessment. This is subject to change. There are sometimes shorter lists for other members of the practice but Kris Pryke is not currently taking any more assessment clients.
Do I need a doctor's referral?
No. You may self-refer by calling my office at any time. You may need a referral from your physician to qualify for insurance coverage. Check with your provider.
What is included in psycho-educational assessment?
Psycho-educational assessments are customized to the referring concerns but do include many common elements. In a "standard" assessment there is:
* an intake interview with parents
* a review of the developmental history
* a review of report cards and previous assessments and interventions
* IQ/intelligence testing (also known as "cognitive testing")
* achievement testing
* tests of memory or language processing if required
* behavioural screening questionnaires for home and school
* preparation of a comprehensive written report
* feedback session with parents
